No New Star

Broken, broken

Senseless, sudden

Routine stolen

Ripped away, without a trace

A life taken, no explanation

Please, no, you must be mistaken

While around, in every detail

Life goes on,

Oblivious

But for the screaming vacuum

Dust-panned debris of devastation

Fragments, remnants still in place

Of a crumpled, tossed aside

Collapse of time and space

Lost, begotten

Hopeless, trodden underfoot

A moment

Trapped in tears that will not come,

Crushed by the weight of a brave face

No greater good,

No new star shining.

Only dust

A gaping void

That nothing can replace.
